KylieSkin’s Newest Launch: Baby Pink Slides

It’s official, the KarJenners are at it again, but this time in foot wear.

Screen Shot 2020-05-02 at 10.52.42 AM - Kaitlin Gallagher.png

It’s official, the KarJenners are at it again, but this time in foot wear. Kylie Jenner has just recently announced her newest launch, KylieSkin x APL slides.

Who is APL? Athletic Propulsion Labs (APL), have been a long time fan of the KarJenners as they have sported their sneakers for years. Their sneakers are practical for the gym with their light weight and serious comfort, I should know, I own a pair or two! Not a fan of the gym, but still want to look like you flawlessly worked out? Well, you’re in luck because their style can’t be beat. The clean modern look they showcase with their on trend color schemes allow you to look your best, but also be that athletic self you want to show off. ;)

logo_pink_400x_ca477b11-021e-4fb9-aa39-bf60d59c4a65 - Kaitlin Gallagher.png

So, what do these slides have that make them worth buying? First off, slides are a major trend this year, so if you buy them you’re already winning. But, the legendary blush pink that KylieSkin promotes could very well be their main attraction, and not to mention, they also have the comfort and style that APL is known for. Their strap is soft and flexible, and they even have “antimicrobial mesh footbeds” which literally massage your feet while you’re going for a stroll. Maximum comfort much? There definitely doesn’t seem to be a downside to these cute, yet casual baby pink slides.

They retail at $100, I know a bit expensive, but why not splurge for self care? You can find these babies on KylieSkin’s website: KylieSkin . Go ahead…click the link, I know you want them!

Tee Rico by Lin-Manuel Miranda Partners With BCFA Amidst COVID 19 Relief Efforts

Tee Rico is known for giving a portion of its sales back to charity, events, and other programs. Lin has found a way to use Tee Rico to help those being hit the hardest during this global pandemic.

IMG_6372 - Rebecca VanderKooi.jpg

Lin-Manuel Miranda is an amazing Broadway star and composer. Possibly his best known work has been on the beloved musical, Hamilton. In 2016 he opened his own merchandise shop called Tee Rico. A quick peruse through his online shop boasts numerous collections, a wide variety of apparel as well as other fun merch including: stickers, pins, and song lyric sheets. All of the designs have been created by artists that mean a lot to him. In addition, Lin’s family dog, Tobi, is hidden within each design.

Tee Rico is known for giving a portion of its sales back to charity, events, and other programs. Lin has found a way to use Tee Rico to help those being hit the hardest during this global pandemic. That is where the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BCFA) Fundraiser Collection for Theater Workers was born. BCFA started a fund to help those in the entertainment industry who are struggling during the COVID 19 pandemic and Lin decided to launch a new collection on his site with 100% of the proceeds going to this fund. This new collection includes T-shirts with a Lin-Manuel face-time logo as well as other long sleeve and hoodie options.

IMG_6370 - Rebecca VanderKooi (1).jpg

Law and Order: Special Victims Unit star, Mariska Hargitay, shared a photo of herself wearing one of the hoodies and holding a Lin-Manuel Face-time stress ball to twitter last week, urging people who are able to donate to this important cause.

IMG_6373 - Rebecca VanderKooi.jpg

Amidst the chaos of the world today it’s encouraging to see people banding together (while being socially distant), to support those in need. While production on all films, TV, and theater has temporarily halted some of those in the entertainment industry are very hard hit. That is why it is so important it is for BCFA, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mariska Hargitay and others to support this cause. I’m grateful this pandemic has brought out the good in many people, it gives us hope for humanity.

IMG_0021 - Alycia Williams.jpg

During these difficult times of being quarantined and social distancing, it’s time to be more creative then we’ve ever been. This includes the Simon Porte Jacquemus, French fashion designer and founder of Jacquemus fashion label, who won’t let a little distance slow him down.

IMG_0009 - Alycia Williams.jpg

Bella Hadid, supermodel, starred in his new campaign for his SS20 Collection, which was shot over facetime by photographer Pierre-Ange Carlotti. The campaign includes a handful of shots with Hadid dressed in multiple pieces from the Jacquemus SS20 Collection. With no hair or makeup artists, along with this all being shot from facetime, it gives this campaign a unorthodox, yet fresh and new feeling. Hadid responded well to this new kind of campaign. She posted the photos to her instagram, leaving the comment “Best few hours… Reconnecting.” Carlotti also responded well to the campaign, by posting the photos on instagram and commenting “when Bella calls.” Lastly, Jacquemus seems to be the most excited about the campaign. He also posted some of the photos on instagram and commented “SO HAPPY TO SHARE WITH YOU.”

IMG_0003 - Alycia Williams.jpg

Hadid showcased items from Jacquemus spring collection that debuted last June, in celebration of the designers 10-year anniversary. Items include a white suit with a green bra underneath and blue sunglasses, a yellow ultra crop top with green bottoms, and blue collared bodysuit, Hadid even posed nude with Jacquemus bags.

IMG_0014 - Alycia Williams.jpg

Jacquemus continues to be a front runner when it comes to innovative, fresh and new ideas and he has yet to fail us when it comes to this campaign. Who will be next to campaign on facetime to promote their new collection?

Can You Be Friend's with Your Ex's Significant Other

HBO’s series Insecure really shows how secure you have to be in not only yourself but your relationship.

Issa-Condola - Maya Howard.png

HBO’s series Insecure really shows how secure you have to be in not only yourself but your relationship. When Issa (played by Issa Rae) discovers that her new bff Condola (played by Christina Elmore) is currently dating her ex Lawrence (played by Jay Ellis), things get interesting. While many like Issa can be secure enough in themselves to not be bothered, many become very insecure.

Issa - Maya Howard.jpg

This dynamic took a deep dive into the process of a person going through seeing their ex with a new partner, specifically one close to them. You go through the crazy thoughts and the awkwardness especially when the new partner is your friend. I believe that as long as you're secure in yourself then you can definitely be friends with your ex’s significant other. Building relationships comes with obstacles and challenges. When it comes to dealing with an ex that you were once in a long time relationship with, you have to make sure you are secure in yourself. Knowing that you are one hundred percent over your ex and that you can move forward with a healthy relationship is the most important. So is a friendship with your ex’s partner possible then yes but as long as you are secure in who you are.

The Iconic Looks of Transgender

In just the past few years trans people have revolutionized the fashion industry by making runways more inclusive spaces. Trans visibility in fashion is epitomized through the rising careers of trans models, several of whom are trailblazers in their craft.

With the growing media representation of trans people, International Transgender Day of Visibility is an annual event that only increases in societal relevance with each passing year. In just the past few years trans people have revolutionized the fashion industry by making runways more inclusive spaces. Trans visibility in fashion is epitomized through the rising careers of trans models, several of whom are trailblazers in their craft.

90-1 - otakudoll@aol.com.jpeg

Male model Krow Kian’s blossoming career is deeply intertwined with his relationship with the trans community, as he regularly receives praise from inspired trans youth, and in turn he strives to remain a positive representation for them. Valentina Sampaio was the first openly transgender model to be on the cover of Vogue Paris, as well as the first transgender model for Victoria’s Secret—a company that previously refused to hire transgender models. Andreja Pejic, renowned for her androgynous look, was the first trans model to book a cosmetic campaign, and Chella Man is the first deaf, transgender man to be signed to a major modeling agency.

5e18c15e49878c0a974e55d3 - otakudoll@aol.com.jpeg

While trans representation in fashion and beauty has come a long way, there is still progress to be made. Dissatisfied with the white, cisnormative images of trans people, artist Texas Isaiah had his own unique way of celebrating International Transgender Day of Visibility. Collaborating with the Marsha P. Johnson Institute, Texas Isaiah created “Every Image is a Blessing”, a stylized photographic collection of 11 black transgender, gender-nonconforming, and nonbinary artists, musicians, and activities.

90 - otakudoll@aol.com.jpeg

The project served the purpose of showcasing black trans people in as they see themselves rather than how they are perceived by others. Texas Isaiah felt that mainstream images of trans people ignore their true struggles, so he sought to create images that were more truthful while still hopeful. The aforementioned models are important contributors to positive trans representation, but portrayals of trans people’s natural beauty are just as significant.

The Fashion Industry Responds To The COVID-19 Crisis

The fashion industry has also had to make adjustments. Their hot new product? The surgical mask.

BFA_28530_3706876.jpg

Due to the spread of coronavirus, or COVID-19, everyone has been advised to self-quarantine in their homes. Businesses have had to make several adjustments. Restaurants are only doing takeout, supermarkets can only let in a few people at a time, and people are having meetings on Zoom. The fashion industry has also had to make adjustments. Their hot new product? The surgical mask.

Syme-SirianoMasks.jpg

Since people have been advised to wear masks when they rarely go out in public, this has started to lead to a shortage. Designer Christian Siriano recently announced that he will be making masks to help with this issue, and several other brands and designers have followed. Siriano announced this with a tweet to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's statement that if anyone could make masks, Cuomo would fund it. Siriano said that his full team was in their homes and available to help. Siriano then received a pattern and then delivered a similar fabric to each of his employees. Siriano's studio was deemed an essential business, and was then turned into a mask assembly line, with each employee standing six feet apart.

Zoë Kravitz's Cool 90's Style in Hulu's "High Fidelity"

A new, gender-reversed Hulu adaptation of Nick Hornby's 1995 novel “High Fidelity” was aired this February.

pic 3 - Libby Ayers.jpg

A new, gender-reversed Hulu adaptation of Nick Hornby's 1995 novel “High Fidelity” was aired this February. The series is about a heartbroken record shop owner, determined to revisit her five all-time greatest heartbreaks in a journey of self-discovery, and to see what went wrong in each relationship. The main character, Rob, is played by none other than the amazing Zoë Kravitz, and her style in the show mimics her unique style in real life.

HighFidelity2 - Libby Ayers.jpg

It influences it so much that Kravitz and the costume designer for the show, Colleen Atwood, actually went and shopped for the clothing at vintage stores together. Kravitz told indiewire that “a lot of the band T-shirts were [hers], too. [Also,] Colleen designed this great leather jacket that was kind of a homage to the jacket that [John] Cusack wears in the [first] film.” The costumes were a nostalgic take inspired by the 90’s, featuring high-waisted jeans, Hawaiian shirts, loose flowy pants, long jackets and sweaters, and combat boots. Band t-shirts were a big hit on the show. Kravitz was seen wearing a Bowie T-shirt, Beastie Boys, and a long Bob Marley shirt almost worn like a dress. Kravitz and Atwood paired some of these looks with high-waisted blue jeans, and a pair of loafers. The long leather trench coat was also worn frequently throughout the show, paired with a variety of different styles.

Throughout-season-Zoë-found-fresh-ways-to-style-her-long-leather - Libby Ayers.jpg

The most memorable was with a Hawaiian shirt worn as a dress, and completed with a pair of black chunky boots. The best, and most casual look from the show was Kravitz in a basic yellow shirt, high-waisted blue jeans, and again, the chunky black boots. She threw her braids in some pigtails and called it a day. High Fidelity is turning heads not only for people who love the production, but for music and fashion lovers as well. The styles in the show are not only affordable, but are also so easily achieved that you probably already have some of it in your closet.

Watch High Fidelity on Hulu today.

When she discussed the album’s concept with Zane Lowe, Gaga said, “The symbol for Chromatica has a sine wave in it, which is the mathematical symbol for sound, and it’s from what all sound is made from, and, for me, sound is what healed me in my life period, and it healed me again making this record, and that is really what Chromatica is all about. In The Industry: Mary Katranzou

All of Mary Katranzou's self named collections revolve around the filtered beauty within luxury things

MARY KATRANTZOU

Brand name: Mary Katrantzou

Creative Director & Designer: Mary Katrantzou

Start year: 2009

Personal 411 on Mary Katrantzou:

Mary Kantrantzou's self named clothing line debuted her first ready-to-wear collection at London Fashion Week in Spring/Summer of 2009. All of Mary's self named collections revolve around the filtered beauty within luxury things; a piece from the art of a design that an everyday woman would not be able to wear if it were real. Mary uses prints of textiles designs as the main focus in all of her collections which her previous season collections displayed textiles designs such as perfume bottles, artisan blown glasses, interiors and object of art, vintage postage stamps just to name a few. Each print Mary creatives is designed around the garment and also the garment around the print. With print textiles being so visual, prints has allowed Mary to create her own world but in the visual language that she displays throughout her collections. Mary's goal into every seasonal collection she puts out is to create something new and something people will appreciate for its intelligent design aesthetic.

Personal 411 review on Mary Katrantzou SS17 collection:

Mary's influences for this collection were in between the triply graphics of the late 60's and early 70's music posters and her Greek roots with Greek vases and plates. Mary wanted to combine "swirly prog-rock patterns with symbols of the ancient Greek world in flared trousers and stretch t-shirts" with also layering which has been a signature of Mary's collection pieces. Mary managed to use completely different range influences and mash them together to make a beautiful textiles art out of this season's garments; allowing herself to explore her creative and take risks. This collection embodies originality and are great statement pieces for women worldwide.

Rate of Mary Katrantzou SS17 collection: 10/10

TOP 5 “MUST-HAVES” WHEN EXPLORING LONDON

"If you are planning a trip to England or about to study abroad in London, the following must-have items may come in handy!" - Aliza M.

Everyone travels and explores a new location in their own way, but practical advice from someone that has “been there and done that” is always worth considering. If you are planning a trip to England or about to study abroad in London, the following must-have items may come in handy!

A Good Rain Jacket

Depending on where you’re from, you may not be used to constant rain. Well, in London there is always a chance of rain! Carrying around an umbrella can be bulky and annoying, so I recommend a rain jacket as your best bet. I studied abroad in London during early summer, and a rain jacket was totally necessary.

Believe me, you won’t regret the convenience of a rain jacket when you are caught in a sudden rain shower as you are out and about exploring this amazing city. Find a rain jacket in a style that you like that can be carried or easily stashed away when you don’t need it. I found one that I was able to put in my backpack or purse when I didn’t need it, and trust me, it was the best thing ever to have that on hand to pull out in a sudden downpour.

An Oyster Card

This probably sounds super weird to someone that hasn’t visited London, but an Oyster card is a pass to ride the tube (what they call the subway in London). You may be given one by AIFS depending on your program — if not, absolutely buy one.

The tube is the main form of transportation in London and is very convenient. The class I took included many museum visits, and the easiest way to travel to and from museums was by way of the tube.

Also, all the fun tourist destinations you’ll want to see are only a tube stop away. On the weekends, we would take the Piccadilly Line down to Covent Garden to shop and eat. You could also hop on another line and go to Camden, which is a great place to grab a bite and hang out.

Pocket Change

Make sure to keep your change. Bathrooms in London are not always free (usually under 1 euro), so keep your spare change in case you need to run to the restroom. Also, never pass up a free restroom. It may seem like a strange suggestion now, but when you’re up and on the go, you never know when you’ll run into a bathroom next.

Also, they don’t use dollar bills in England. The one-pound currency is a coin, so you can expect to carry around a lot of change. I strongly advise carrying a wallet or purse for pocket change, so you’ll always have coins when you need them.

A Good Camera

London is a beautiful city, and you never know when you might want to snap a shot. I’m sure most people have smartphones so this is not a huge issue, but if you have a digital camera, I would advise you bring it.

I personally brought along a Polaroid camera, and the shots came out amazing. Pictures are a great way to share what you’re doing with family and friends back home, and you’ll love looking back at photos from your time abroad to reminisce in the future.

Plenty of Patience

While this is obviously an English speaking country, there are many differences between the way English people and Americans speak and communicate with each other. Although you may have been speaking English all of your life, it might not be as easy as you’re expecting to make yourself understood as an American in London.

You shouldn’t hesitate to get out and speak to Londoners to learn about the city and make new friends, but remember to be patient when you encounter travel frustrations. If you stay relaxed and friendly, you’ll find it easier to make the most out of your visit!
