2021 will be a wild ride for fashion lovers and style enthusiasts everywhere. First thing to know about fashion trends is that they are always on a cycle which means trends never really go out of style, permanently at least. Trends somehow never really leave our wardrobe. With that being said, some of the era’s I think will make a big comeback is the 70’s and the early 2000’s. With the rise of social justice and political consciousness within Gen Z and younger Millennials, I definitely think the trends of the 1970’s hippie movement will make a serious comeback. Think DIY denim, cottage dresses and crochet pieces. Also, just like the 70’s people will be way more conscious about what they wear and the materials that are used to make it which means sustainable brands will make a huge wave this year as well.

Of course, the rise of the Y2K has already made head way in 2020 but be prepared to relive the 2000’s even more with the reboot of many brands such as Baby Phat and Juicy Couture. You may see the return of baguette bags, fuzzy bucket hats, and even velour sweat suits.

Another trend we will see is functionality and comfort over everything. No more are the days of fitting into a size 7 shoe when you are a 9 just to be stylish. After the events of 2020, people are slowly realizing that you can have comfort and style at the same time. People want longer lasting pieces that they’re able to mix and match while also being able to get work done then hang out with their friends afterwards. It’s all about versatility and functional wear.

With just some of the trends I listed  it doesn’t mean you have to run out and add these items back into your wardrobe. Style is about your personal expression and how you want to represent yourself. But if you did want to add some of these looks to your wardrobe this can be used as a little guide to be ahead of the pack.

Fashion Trends To Feel And Look Good In This Autumn

However, at the same time we see bright, neon colors, leather looks and statement details, which proves that today's women do not need to submit to specific trends or stereotypes, but to live and dress without limits.

Each of the major fashion capitals has its own character: New York is the ideal place for up-and-coming, independent and cool designers, London stands out with its special, unlimited fashion trends, Milan presents, of course, luxury accessories, while Paris hosts the most spectacular shows. What stands out among the biggest trends for this year is that they are addressed to today's woman. This includes comfortable clothes and luxurious fabrics that aim to establish the idea that fashion has to do with feeling good about yourself. However, at the same time we see bright, neon colors, leather looks and statement details, which proves that today's women do not need to submit to specific trends or stereotypes, but to live and dress without limits.

Neon’s a Winner!

We are used to welcoming autumn with shades such as burgundy, emerald or dark purple. However, in 2019 the options in bright colors are endless. The looks on the catwalks, as well as on the streets were filled with neon colors a few months ago, which means that this season we are going to see many monochrome looks in these shades, as well as creative color-blocking.

Return of the Plaid!

The plaid returns for another year on the catwalks, but also in the street style looks, with the plaid trench coats and blazers being in the spotlight again. This year, we saw it in different styles and shades, with a strong British air. Choose a raincoat or a midi raincoat to achieve the perfect London look on rainy days - the options are endless. This season combines not only comfort, but also the freedom that every woman has to stand out at any time. Easy access to all the different trends of each season is enough to draw enough inspiration to refresh our wardrobe - and now we can more easily than ever.

Sports Chic!

Don’t let your figure hold you back if you want to wear sports clothing. You should always honour and love your body, regardless of its shape and size. Sports clothing is always in and it looks great as well as being comfortable. Curves shorts look great and will last through autumn.

Leather look!

The skin remains at the top this season, with the difference that it becomes more coloured. Shades of orange, red, green, blue and other bright colours will make their presence felt in the leather clothes of summer and autumn! And if you are worried about this fabric, because you consider it too ‘out there’, then maybe the proposals of the famous fashion houses will change your mind. So dare to wear it, especially in autumn, making appearances that will gain impressions. Ideal choices are leather coats or jackets, but also overalls or total leather outfits.

So whatever you choose to wear for the rest of the year, make sure it is something that makes you feel good and gives you purpose. You really do deserve to look and feel good, so get shopping and play around with those fashion trends of 2020!

Let's Talk Trends: Health Trends

Social media can be a great place to gather information, and learn tips and tricks. Making sure that information is accurate and safe is a different task.

As quarantine shuttered everything throughout the country, people were left with only themselves to rely on for their health needs. No gyms, no restaurants, and grocery store wipeouts, caused people to turn to social media for different, innovative ways to meet their fitness and health needs.

One of the most popular apps used to get this information? TikTok. In short videos of 60 seconds or less users could find fun new workouts, easy recipes, and tips and tricks to staying healthy while in your house. But an excess of information does not mean correct information! TikTok users are not required to have any sort of credentials for the type of content they will be informing users on – so many of the health information is coming from someone unqualified in any form of health education.

TikTok’s platform has a unique set of viewers, as many are in a much younger demographic than other social media. Typical viewers on TikTok can range from 8 years old to 25 years old, making a large portion of their users extremely susceptible to misleading information. “Diet Hacks”, “How to Lose Weight Fast”, and other seemingly easy ways to “promote” a healthy lifestyle, are actually promoting eating disorders to many of our youth. Many of us are already aware of the body image issues that social media can cause. Constantly having a feed of seemingly “perfect” people can make one extremely insecure about themselves. But giving others ideas on unrealistic and impractical ways to “achieve” these goals, are leading many down an unhealthy path.

One of the many promoted is intermittent fasting. The idea of intermittent fasting is to restrict your daily eating to a certain time frame, so you are typically not eating late at night or early in the morning. Many have taken this idea to the extreme and promote only eating once a day. Everyone needs energy and the idea of eating one meal a day or less is unsustainable and irrational. For a developing child especially, nutrient intake and a sustainable diet are so important. However, many on social media platforms idealize this type of fast, encouraging many to use it as the secret to fast weight loss.

Along with eating restrictions, “miracle” foods are a hot topic on social media. Low calorie, tasty snacks and supplements are the top hack for many influencers. When looking at the ingredient breakdown on many of these “miracle” foods however, it seems you are typically trading off calories for chemicals.

Keeping up with Quarantine Trends

As we are in the middle of a pandemic, how does one still dress "trendy?"

Screen Shot 2020-05-18 at 10.15.01 PM - Anna Levitus.png

As we are in the middle of a pandemic, how does one still dress "trendy?" It's tricky since everyone is stuck at home for the time being. However, even with quarantine going on, people are still finding ways to keep up with different fashion trends. Here's a couple for you so that you can keep in the loop!

One popular one that I've noticed is quite obvious. I've been shopping for nothing but comfort wear since being home. Doesn't everyone want to relax in their pajamas all day? I know since I have a bunch of zoom calls and facetime with friends that I still want to look cute. Matching sets with oversized sweatshirts and sweatpants are so in and incredibly cozy. What makes them even trendier is that people have started a bunch of DIYs and tie-dying or bleaching. It is all over my Instagram and TikTok feed. If you're looking to buy some, I'd recommend Etsy where you can support small businesses.

Another trend fits this period perfectly and that's face masks. I've seen people in supermarkets and walking on the streets wearing not just plain boring ones. I saw one girl wearing a cheetah print mask and another wearing one with bright colors on it. These fun masks make wearing them a lot easier for some people. It allows you to be safe while still being fashionable. People are making them themselves or ordering them online.

Where could you get some cute ones? Kim Kardashian has a fashion line of undergarments called SKIMS, where she has now included a collection of non-medical face masks. It comes in 5 different skin tone colors of Sand, Clay, Sienna, Cocoa, and Onyx. They are all one size fits all. SKIMS is additionally donating 10,000 Seamless Face Masks to charities. The masks became so popular that they sold out in less than 30 minutes! They will be more coming soon if you're interested!
