Simple Rules For Accessorising
Accessories are a simple way to add some interest to your outfits. Whether you want to refresh your style, or just to add a pop of something extra, getting your accessories right can lift an outfit, and make you look more put-together, more stylish, or more fun.
Accessories are a simple way to add some interest to your outfits. Whether you want to refresh your style, or just to add a pop of something extra, getting your accessories right can lift an outfit, and make you look more put-together, more stylish, or more fun. Here’s how to wear accessories in the right way.
Choose only three or four large pieces. Mixing bigger pieces, like chunky jewelry, can look good, but stacking too much on can end up looking confused. Choose a few pieces and let them shine, and don’t overpower them by piling on too many pieces at once, especially while we’re all taking over our faces with masks (buy stylish ones at Mask Market).
Only wear a full matching set of accessories if the pieces are small. A matched set of bigger pieces can look too much. You’re don’t need huge stones in both necklace and earrings, for example. Smaller pieces can be worn as a matching set, as this looks deliberate, and not old-fashioned.
Forget the rule that your handbag must match your shoes. This rule is a classic, but it’s dated. For a more modern style, ditch this rule. Instead, choose a bag that complements, not matches. A contrasting shoe and bag combination can look chic.
Embrace your glasses. If you wear glasses, view them as an accessory and find frames that suit your style. You’ll feel more confident when you wear them, and your glasses can add to an outfit instead of detracting from it. Whether you opt for something discreet, or statement frames, choose a style you love and you’ll like wearing them.
Contrast the outfit. If you’re wearing a plain outfit, you can choose bolder accessories. A dress in a plain color and a simple cut is a great base for some dramatic pieces, or to show off a beautiful necklace or a set of large earrings. If your outfit is more dramatic, keep your accessories plainer so they don’t get lost. If your dress has a strong print or a bright color, choose accessories like simple stud earrings, or a slim bracelet to let the dress take center stage.
Don’t be scared of color. Accessories can be an easy way to add a touch of color to your outfits. Don’t always opt for black or neutral accessories. Reds and pinks, for example, will look beautiful against black or navy outfits. Choose a color to stand out.
Theme your outfit. A simple outfit can be made to feel more modern, classic, or vintage very easily by the accessories that you choose. For example, a dress in a simple cut can be styled with a classically shaped handbag and a brooch, and will seem vintage, or can be paired with spike heels and a studded clutch, and will look very modern.
Try metallics. If you aren’t sure what color accessories will go best with your outfit, try a metallic. This looks modern and will work with lots of different styles, without adding an ill-matched color.

Top 4 Trending Fashion Accessories
Modern fashion seems to be evolving with so much pace that some new trends tend to disappear even before people start getting used to it.
Modern fashion seems to be evolving with so much pace that some new trends tend to disappear even before people start getting used to it. Fashion tips are continually changing, and are either bringing back old fashion in new ways or pushing back the boundaries all together. Thus, it is understandable if fashion can get a little bit confusing sometimes. Fashion accessories are not being left out of the change. So, in this article, we will take a look at some of the current fashion accessory trends sweeping through the world of fashion.
1. Sunglasses with Colored Frames
There’s even more reason to protect your eyes these days as the temperature keeps rising. And the latest fashion trend is providing a more colorful way to protect your eyes, with color sunglasses frames. Color has become the order of the day since people are trying out bold and adventurous combinations. These vibrant frames will add a touch of character and personality to any outfit you choose to wear. Plus, even the prescription lenses have not been left out of this trend. Click here for a wide range of fashionable eyewear from Burberry which you can get under prescription.
2. Bucket Hats
We’ve been used to baseball caps, hats, and even umbrellas as our top choices when protecting our heads and faces from the unforgiving sun. But bucket hats seem to be the new trend now. Plus, the fact that you can try these hats with almost any kind of outfit (depending on how bold you are) has made these fashionable hats a big hit among the young folks especially. They offer a laid-back feeling with an attitude that portrays boldness. Add a pair of color sunglasses frames to your bucket hat, and you’ll easily become the center of attraction.
3. Square Toe Sandals
If you think not so much can be done about sandals, then think again. A new wave of footwear is hitting the streets, and we are not talking about tall heels or bold colors. We are talking about something comparatively simple and yet classy - square toe sandals. Most of them come with a strappy finish that adds length to the legs. The only downside about these sandals is the fact that you cannot wear them every season. But summer is here now, so why don’t you try them out while you still can.
4. Chunky Boots
Fashion is not always about creating something new. Most of the time, it is also about bringing back the old in a new way. This is exactly what chunky boots are all about. Add a pair of these boots to your square toe sandals, and you are covered for any season - whether hot or cold. Most of these chunky boots come with low heels and a rubber platform. This makes them weigh considerably less than they look. Plus, they are surprisingly very comfy and easy on the legs. They are perfect for either a walk in the park or a fun night out with your girlfriends. And if men are bold enough, there are also chunky boots for men.
QUAY X LIZZO FOR GOOD
You're going to need a pair of sunnies to shade your eyes from the shine of Quay's new collection.
You're going to need a pair of sunnies to shade your eyes from the shine of Quay's new collection. The Australian sunglass company just dropped a new line in collaboration with, the only and only, Lizzo. With a spark and originality that only the artist herself could embody, the new shades will be the vibrant addition to your summer wardrobe that you’ve been craving.
The singer, songwriter and performer took the world by storm with her fun, empowering, resilient music and energy, and these qualities become tangible as they are integrated into the new designs. Featuring colorful yet sophisticated styles, the collection has superstar written all over it.
The Lizzo inspired line includes a variety of silhouettes such as aviators and cat eye, as well as sunglasses with metal brow bars and studded embellishments like mini stars and rhinestones. Some of the shades are also offered in a translucent rainbow finish. No matter what style you choose, every pair will help you shine a little bit brighter before you ever even hit the sun.
Probably the most significant reason why this new collection outshines that of its predecessors is the fact that proceeds from every purchase will be used towards donating meals all across the United States. In addition to teaming up with Lizzo, the Quay company has also partnered with Feeding America during this time of uncertainty. Each individual purchase is the equivalent of 100 meals that are distributed by local food banks.
Besides the obvious charm and enthusiasm of the new collection, the ability to contribute meaningful meals and provide a sense of security to fellow Americans is what makes this line one of our favorites of the season. You will undoubtedly add a spark to your style when wearing these fun and eccentric shades while simultaneously making a difference in the lives of people who need it most.

Flower Anarchy
Salute, a Hong-Kong based brand, just recently dropped their spring/summer collection on April 18th.
Now that summer is just around the corner, Salute, a Hong-Kong based brand, just recently dropped their spring/summer collection on April 18th. A$AP Rocky and many other fashion lovers are seen showing Salute’s unique jewelry off. Salute’s sense of individuality is high and they know how to create a line that's different from others, this is what draws my eyes in.
This jewelry collection is also pretty budget-friendly, coming in at about $50 for the bracelet and $70 for the necklace. Building on its traditional theme, the bracelet and necklace are primarily based on the expression “Flower Anarchy”. The name resonates with the design of the jewelry perfectly, while creating a name to draw customers like me in.
The accessories include eye-catching charms and pearls accompanied by silver accents. The charms are the best part, they include daisies, rainbow flowers with peace signs, smiley face daisies, and pearls. The necklace is split up by small beads and long silver rods. Each charm is uniquely arranged and appealing to the eye, the different sizes of the pearls give the necklace and bracelet a more detailed and complex look. I love a brand that creates a style of their own, one that doesn’t copy trends, but one that makes trends. That’s why Salute is a good place to spend your money whether it be on clothing or jewelry. Either way, you're paying a good price for what your'e receiving!

19 Women-Owned Small Businesses to Follow
In the midst of influencers, department stores, fast fashion, and big beauty brands, it can be easy to forget how important it is to support small businesses.
In the midst of influencers, department stores, fast fashion, and big beauty brands, it can be easy to forget how important it is to support small businesses. They help shape and support our communities, and put more focus on the quality and craftsmanship of their products. The Small Business Association states that independent businesses can help reduce unemployment rates, and estimates that “small business owners create two out of every three net new jobs in the U.S, [which could increase] if consumers shifted just 10 percent of their business to local organizations.” Next time you are about to buy something from a large corporation, take a moment to think how you could be supporting these 19 (women-owned!) small businesses instead.

Multiculturalism in the Philadelphia International Gem & Jewelry Show
Multiculturalism in the Philadelphia International Gem & Jewelry Show. The event was a vast showcase of diversity, not only in the types of gemstones used for the fashion jewelry but also in the cultural backgrounds of the vendors.
The Philadelphia International Gem & Jewelry Show was held in the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center from March 6th to March 8th, 2020. The event was a vast showcase of diversity, not only in the types of gemstones used for the fashion jewelry but also in the cultural backgrounds of the vendors. Sellers incorporated elements and signifiers of their ethnicities into their products, thus having created truly remarkable works of art.
The most expansive and vibrant stand in the show was that of BJ Total Fashion, a jeweler that specializes in Indian and Buddhist creations. Amidst the gold bracelets and necklaces that encompassed various sections of the BJ Total Fashion vendor were Buddhist medallions and sculptures in the shape of the religious symbol kumkum bharani. Enhancing the aura of these golden treasures was the presence of bejeweled hair accessories, some of which were flowers built entirely out of gemstones. Several other merchants sold jewelry influenced by multiple regions across Asia. Like BJ Total Fashion, both Avaniee Jewels and Taj Mahal Gems’ jewelry is styled after that of India.
Orchid Pearl Inc’s necklaces and rings were made from fine cultured Japanese Akoya pearls, and at the Imagine Bliss, Inc. vendor there was just as much jewelry as there were silk Chinese-style jewelry bags. One last culturally diverse seller was J&J Gems, which was devoted to Native American art. This vendor was particularly unique in that it primarily sold raw crystals rather than fashion jewelry. Seeing such gemstones as rose quartzes and rainbow jaspers in their pure form dazzled audiences with their distinct beauty. To complete J&J Gems’ striking aesthetic, dream catchers and stone and wooden bear statues ornamented the scene. The Philadelphia International Gem & Jewelry will return to the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center on September 18, 2020, which undoubtedly will create more opportunities for the jewelers to further diversify culturally.

Self Love Wins: Jenneva M.
It's time to refresh your feed. We discovered this beauty via social media and she gave a little bit of her reality.
We first stumbled across Jenneva through Instagram. Her feed was a breath of fresh air, unlike others on Instagram she doesn't post selfie after selfie; but instead she mixes in relatable, hilarious memes that make following her even more worth it. The first thing that will obviously catch your attention on Instagram is her glowing skin and how she slays a simple low haircut! Her beauty is remarkable, yet in such a simplistic sense that you think to yourself how does she make it look so effortless. With over 40K followers, Jenneva still remains down to earth, constantly engaging with followers in comments (you might even feel like you know her personally at time). She uses her platform to not only promote her brand, but to inspire other to appreciate who they are. At the time we began following Jenneva, her boutique was featuring a line of body-con dresses and two pieces outfits. With a strong interest from others in her brand, she continued with a line of jewelry (available now) and continues to expand. The 22 year-old student and business owner shows us that not all 'Instagram famous' personalities are cookie cutter. Intrigued by her mix beauty and business, we had to get to know her better.
Growing up, where did you look for inspiration? Who or what inspires you now? (In terms of your daily life, your brand's clothing designs or both)
I’ve always been a go with the flow kind of girl, my inspiration comes from how I’m feeling. Now I’m just the same, not much has changed.
How did the idea of Jennevam.com come about? What's the brand's mission?
JennevaM.com has been budding forever; I've always wanted to have my own retail franchise. I went to school in New York at LIM College and majored in Business Management with a minor in Marketing and then I transferred schools but my major and goal still remain the same. My mission is to provide fashionable clothing at an affordable price for all body types because I can remember wanting clothing that I either couldn't afford or that wasn't my size.
We noticed that you have a large following on Instagram, would you attribute any of your brand success to this?
Absolutely, it is my only brand promotion at this time.
Still staying on the Instagram topic, we see your pictures floating around the internet all the time. What is life like being "Instagram Famous" in a way?
Kinda cool, I’m constantly connecting with people I’d more than likely never come across otherwise. I have been to the post office to drop off orders to Asia and the UK, and I’ve gotten the chance to meet new friends. It’s been an awesome experience so far.
One thing we absolutely love about you is your unapologetic spirit towards your skin color. What advice would you give to others who struggle with self-love and appreciation?
Love from within is so damn important! Our perceptions, our attitudes, how we treat others, they all stem from how we’re feeling about ourselves. It is so important that you learn to love you for whom you are and that includes those ugly parts we aren’t quite ready to face because if anything those are the parts that need our loving the most. Make a list of the things you need to work on and tackle one thing out a time, wake up every morning and love one thing off your list until your list is loved out. Be the women you want to be; A women of your own stature, of your own kind, with your own rules and never let anyone tear you down. Most importantly, the skin you’re in, you have to wake up every day in it; work relentlessly to learn to love it. We’re (black women) so magical, so sprinkle that damn black girl magic and be unapologetic about it.
You've recently shared with your followers your new budding romance. How does having someone in your corner romantically translate to your recent or future accomplishments?
Some accomplishments require you to have a team behind you and Joseph is pretty much 1/3 of my team. Some days are rough, I go through a lot but I always have him in my corner pushing me to keep going. Right now I probably wouldn't have made an active attempt to revamp my brand to what I want it to be if he didn't push me to go after everything I want. If I say no to my dreams, he's that person telling me "Yes, yes you can and it’s yours."
Anything we should look forward to in your upcoming work for your brand?
Definitely! I haven't been very active with my brand as of last year since I've started school and work both full time; it's been rough finding energy and time. I've been working hard over the last few months to revamp my brand from ground up so I'm pretty excited to share that with everyone what I've been working on.
What style trends are you looking forward to this spring/summer?
High rise bikinis, lace up chunky heeled sandals and jumpsuit!
If there was anyone in the world you could collaborate with who would it be? Why?
To be honest off the top of my head I can’t think of anyone.
What your favorite song of all time? Why?
MGMT- Electric Feel, it always makes me want to get up to smile and dance.
Tell us a little known fact about yourself.
I’m probably the shyest most awkward person you will ever meet in person, I'm pretty cool once I warm up to people.

Accessory Designer Melissa Janae Brings Her Charm(s) to Wildfire: The Series
Glam Nation brings the finishing touches to Wildfire: The Series.
Philadelphia native and accessory designer, Melissa Janae shares her designs at The Wildfire Series. The event, taking place April 30th, is aimed at providing a platform for emerging creatives and artists to showcase their designs and talents.
The self-described creative and free spirit started Glam Nation in 2012. Originally set to be a cosmetics brand, Glam Nation eventually transformed into an accessory line.
Much of Melissa's inspiration stems from vintage fashion, old Hollywood films to be exact. With the likes of Carmen and Casablanca, decorative and ornate styles are the foundation of her designs. “I would describe my overall style as BIG, eye catching, and controversial.”, states Melissa Janae.
In the future, Melissa envisions her Glam Nation pieces being worn on celebrities such as Solange, Janelle Monae, Lupita Nyong’o, Erykah Badu and Rihanna. In addition to opening a boutique, she also plans on adding more simpler pieces to her collection.
The 28 year old designer’s custom headpieces and necklaces can be purchased at Wildefire: The Series, as well as Etsy.

Carley Rose the Label: Meet the woman behind this sustainable label
Conforming isn't apart of Carley Rose's agenda, find out why!
Q & A: Carley Rose the Label
Name: Carley Rose Wolski
Age: 23
Occupation: Fashion Designer
Location: Central Coast NSW
We had the chance to pick the brain of Carley Rose, owner/designer of Carley Rose the Label. In a world were conforming is taking the lead, Carley Rose stays true to herself and authentic designs. A soon-to-be graduate from Raffles College of Design and Commerce in March of this year with a Bachelor of Design, Carley Rose excited to watch her brand take off. In the midst of her designing, she looks forward to a more simplistic lifestyle with her husband, in cute house on a little land providing a fruit & vegetable garden. Along with a special dye garden for fabrics and garments. Read the rest of Carley Rose's interview below:
How did you conceptualize your blog and brand? What is your creative process?
My brand is really an extension of my own passions and style, which I would say is a very laid back, chilled out bohemian style, with a sense of respect towards the environment. It’s responsible fashion that makes you think about where it has come from, each step of the way.
My creative process involves a lot of inspiration gathering where I collect drawings, photos, books, music, magazines, go for walks in unusual places, anything that gets the sparks flying. Once I’ve gathered my material I start sketching, I like using lots of different mediums and that helps me think outside of the box too. The designing process needs more than simply sketching though, it also involves finding different fabrics and touching them, sewing them in weird ways just to see what you can achieve. My latest obsession is natural dyeing which you can see in my graduate collection GRADATION, where I used vegetables such as cabbage and onions to dye the pieces the colors they are today. Each of those fabrics were white when I bought them, and it fascinates me that I can take natural, compostable resources and create these beautiful colors without the pollution that comes from many other dyeing processes used in industry. That changes how I design dramatically because now I’m designing around that process and the results are sometimes surprising but always wonderful.
Growing up, where did you look for inspiration? Who or what inspires you now?
It’s funny to think about being ‘inspired’ as a child, I feel like the whole world is amazing at that age and you are learning so much each day. I found my Nanna pretty inspiring, I wanted to be able to do what she did every day which was mostly knitting, gardening, making jam and sewing. I’m an old lady at heart, I still want to just do those things in my free time. I always loved the idea of making everything yourself from scratch, for a while there you stopped seeing that kind of resourcefulness but I think it’s starting to come around again.
Today, I am inspired by a lot of things, my Nanna is still up there too. Specifically to my design work I would say nature inspires me most. That’s a broad subject matter but that just means there is so much to explore. I love snorkelling and looking at underwater photography for shape, color and texture references. Looking at different plants and their structure for interesting shapes, or the pattern in a birds feathers, it can all help spark ideas and it’s just so limitless.
I’m not the type of designer who looks at what other designers are doing to get inspiration, however in saying that I’ve got to say Vivienne Westwood is at the top of my Inspiring People List, particularly because of her attitudes about fashion and sustainability.
When was the moment you realized your craft was more than just a hobby?
I used to make a lot of jewelry and when I was about 17 and discovered Etsy I thought I’d have a go at selling online. The minute someone actually bought something, actually paid me for something I’d made with my own two hands was euphoric. I never wanted to lose that feeling.
If there was one fashion house you could work with who would it be and why?
I feel privileged to say that I have already had the opportunity to work along side one of my favourite labels as an intern, and that is Romance Was Born. I love them more now after interning with them than I did before, just seeing the passion they have for the artists and artworks they incorporate into their designs. There is a whole collaboration process that you don’t see in many other labels, that was really cool to see. If I could work with anyone else I’d like to work for an ethical and sustainable fashion house, perhaps for someone like Rachael Cassar.
Anything we should look forward to in your upcoming collection?
I’m working on a couple of made-to-order bridal gowns at the moment so the next collection is on hold for now, however I’m planning on using more natural dyeing techniques on some really chilled-out silhouettes.
What is one closet item that you feel is absolutely necessary?
I’ve always got a good pair of black leather ankle boots which through the colder months (and as much of the hotter months as is comfortable) I wear just about every day. They’re great because they go with almost everything, they’re comfortable, they’re good work shoes for someone who is on their feet all the time, they last well and can be resoled as needed. I’m all about making things last as long as possible and buying clothes and shoes that can be worn in different ways with a lot of stuff I already have, so my black Chelsea boots are one of my favorite things at the moment.

At the rise of Covid-19 many of us first questioned the timeline of fashion week and would we see the regular calendar continue - the question weighed over many of us for months! It was refreshing to see design houses and designers across the globe take advantage of the uncertainty and plow into production mode - thus my interest in Jerri Reid New York - The Black Designer based in Brooklyn New York wow’d instagram with his latest collection paying homage to the Black Is King film which debuted earlier this year in July. I was taken aback at quick of a turn round the young designer produced and released his well crafted designs reflecting some of the films most memorable moments.
