The Summer of Virtual Fashion Weeks
Paris, Milan, and London Fashion Weeks have each announced the different ways in which they will be transporting their awe-inspiring shows to digital media.
This summer, Europe’s most prestigious fashion events will be joining the rest of the industry’s temporary relocation to online platforms. Paris, Milan, and London Fashion Weeks have each announced the different ways in which they will be transporting their awe-inspiring shows to digital media. Interestingly enough, the sudden and mandatory switch to online spaces has actually compelled each Fashion Week to present their collections more creatively.
Going digital for the first time, London Fashion Week aims to be inclusive of both industry professionals and everyday fashion enthusiasts by making their shows accessible worldwide. As a result, this will also be the first London Fashion Week that merges womenswear and menswear, creating a gender-neutral showcase that will be less wasteful than those of previous years.
Following London Fashion Week is Milan Digital Fashion Week, which will be available through the National Chamber of Italian Fashion’s website cameramoda.it, as well as their many social media accounts. To further immerse viewers in the Fashion Week experience, there will be additional online features, including masterclasses and webinars led by industry experts. Remaining mindful of the pandemic, Milan Digital Fashion Week is an extension of the “China, We Are You With You” initiative, which began in February as a means of remotely keeping Chinese citizens who were unable to travel to this year’s event updated on its affairs.
Lastly, Paris Fashion Week will debut its new video format on July 9 through July 13. This Fashion Week is more traditional than the previous two, however, as the focus is more on the adherence to industry conventions and the display of collections rather than any digital innovations. Nonetheless, even this devotion to Fashion Week customs has the potential to elicit creative ideas for making audiences feel as though they are attending the grand event in person. Paris Fashion Week has yet to confirm its schedule or featured brands, but the fashion capital of the world will never fail to dazzle audiences during its most significant week, regardless of venue or format.

Alexander McQueen's Plato's Atlantis: A Show That Defined a Decade
Alexander McQueen's Plato's Atlantis: A Show That Defined a Decade
On October 5th, 2009, Alexander McQueen premiered Plato’s Atlantis, a show that embodied innovation from its very inception and was the dawning of a new era of fashion. Built from an already unique premise, the Plato’s Atlantis show itself was a milestone in fashion history, all while becoming intertwined with the burgeoning fame of pop legend Lady Gaga and pioneering the consumption of fashion through various technological advancements.
Hosted on Nick Knight’s ShowStudio platform, Plato’s Atlantis was the first live-streamed fashion show. Further cementing its icon status in online culture, Lady Gaga, who had already cultivated a sizable following at that time, promoted the show via Twitter, attracting so much of her fanbase that ShowStudio’s server crashed.
The content of Plato’s Atlantis continued to enthrall viewers with a narrative of humanity returning to the oceans after having devastated the earth, visualized through the combination of snakeskin and sequins to symbolize the harmony between nature and fashion. Lady Gaga bolstered the show’s success once more, as this was the venue in which she first performed the song that would become a massive hit, “Bad Romance”. She wore the famous McQueen “armadillo shoes” during that performance and would feature them in the music video for “Bad Romance”.
Fittingly, this historic landmark occurred at the turn of the decade, preceding the emergence of social media platforms, online campaigns, and live-streaming that made the intricacies of the fashion industry more accessible to wider audiences. Plato’s Atlantis was Alexander McQueen’s last show before his tragic passing, but it has been immortalized by how profoundly it has revolutionized the online world of fashion.

Tommy Hilfiger's Fall 2020 RTW Collection Is The Line That We Need Right Now.
Tommy Hilfiger revealed their fall 2020 ready to wear collection this week, and we needed it.
Tommy Hilfiger revealed their fall 2020 ready to wear collection this week, and we needed it. In fact, the collection gave us all ideas of what we can wear while we are all quarantined at home. While many people have most likely adopted the pajamas and sweats dress code, Tommy Hilfiger is hoping to change that. The clothes are cozy, yet fashionable, and are a great transition into the chilly fall weather. The collection as a whole has a Southwestern, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper in "A Star Is Born," outdoor music festival vibe. It features plaid and paisley patterns, and a color palate of deep red, blue, and gold-brown. Since this is a fall line, layers and outerwear are prominent as well. This collection is perfect for going to an interview, then relaxing at home, without even having to change. Or for those times in quarantine when you actually feel like dressing up, even though you have no where to be.

Review: Chloe Ready to Wear Fall Winter 2020
Chloe Ready To Wear Fall 2020 Collection Was Blessed By Beiges And Individuality.
The Chloé Fall Winter 2020 Ready to Wear was filled with beige, brown, navy, and olive. The collection showed perfect it-girl fall: flowy skirts and pants, outerwear, and knit pieces. Chloé Creative Director, Natacha Ramsay-Levi channeled contemporary femininity into the collection. Ramsay- Levi worked with painter Rita Ackermann, bringing looks from her work to the runway.
Golden totems and pearl white floors were blessed by the models with their hair neatly slicked back. The looks were chic and tidy, yet soft and romantic. Each look was coupled with a belt at the hip or waist, showing off a great silhouette. The makeup worked to show off the model’s features and the facial expressions were at a strong neutral. The design ranges from modern graphics to soft, cozy patterns meant for the changing moods in the upcoming autumn. The jewelry was simple yet individualized. It completed the looks, making it look much more approachable to the common eye. Pins were worn together like an everyday person would. The collections overall sense was to highlight individuality and the collection was the perfect representation of Natacha Ramsay-Levi.

MARY KATRANTZOU
Brand name: Mary Katrantzou
Creative Director & Designer: Mary Katrantzou
Start year: 2009
Personal 411 on Mary Katrantzou:
Mary Kantrantzou's self named clothing line debuted her first ready-to-wear collection at London Fashion Week in Spring/Summer of 2009. All of Mary's self named collections revolve around the filtered beauty within luxury things; a piece from the art of a design that an everyday woman would not be able to wear if it were real. Mary uses prints of textiles designs as the main focus in all of her collections which her previous season collections displayed textiles designs such as perfume bottles, artisan blown glasses, interiors and object of art, vintage postage stamps just to name a few. Each print Mary creatives is designed around the garment and also the garment around the print. With print textiles being so visual, prints has allowed Mary to create her own world but in the visual language that she displays throughout her collections. Mary's goal into every seasonal collection she puts out is to create something new and something people will appreciate for its intelligent design aesthetic.
Personal 411 review on Mary Katrantzou SS17 collection:
Mary's influences for this collection were in between the triply graphics of the late 60's and early 70's music posters and her Greek roots with Greek vases and plates. Mary wanted to combine "swirly prog-rock patterns with symbols of the ancient Greek world in flared trousers and stretch t-shirts" with also layering which has been a signature of Mary's collection pieces. Mary managed to use completely different range influences and mash them together to make a beautiful textiles art out of this season's garments; allowing herself to explore her creative and take risks. This collection embodies originality and are great statement pieces for women worldwide.
Rate of Mary Katrantzou SS17 collection: 10/10

At the rise of Covid-19 many of us first questioned the timeline of fashion week and would we see the regular calendar continue - the question weighed over many of us for months! It was refreshing to see design houses and designers across the globe take advantage of the uncertainty and plow into production mode - thus my interest in Jerri Reid New York - The Black Designer based in Brooklyn New York wow’d instagram with his latest collection paying homage to the Black Is King film which debuted earlier this year in July. I was taken aback at quick of a turn round the young designer produced and released his well crafted designs reflecting some of the films most memorable moments.
