The Summer of Virtual Fashion Weeks

Paris, Milan, and London Fashion Weeks have each announced the different ways in which they will be transporting their awe-inspiring shows to digital media.

This summer, Europe’s most prestigious fashion events will be joining the rest of the industry’s temporary relocation to online platforms. Paris, Milan, and London Fashion Weeks have each announced the different ways in which they will be transporting their awe-inspiring shows to digital media. Interestingly enough, the sudden and mandatory switch to online spaces has actually compelled each Fashion Week to present their collections more creatively.

Going digital for the first time, London Fashion Week aims to be inclusive of both industry professionals and everyday fashion enthusiasts by making their shows accessible worldwide. As a result, this will also be the first London Fashion Week that merges womenswear and menswear, creating a gender-neutral showcase that will be less wasteful than those of previous years.

Following London Fashion Week is Milan Digital Fashion Week, which will be available through the National Chamber of Italian Fashion’s website cameramoda.it, as well as their many social media accounts. To further immerse viewers in the Fashion Week experience, there will be additional online features, including masterclasses and webinars led by industry experts. Remaining mindful of the pandemic, Milan Digital Fashion Week is an extension of the “China, We Are You With You” initiative, which began in February as a means of remotely keeping Chinese citizens who were unable to travel to this year’s event updated on its affairs.

Lastly, Paris Fashion Week will debut its new video format on July 9 through July 13. This Fashion Week is more traditional than the previous two, however, as the focus is more on the adherence to industry conventions and the display of collections rather than any digital innovations. Nonetheless, even this devotion to Fashion Week customs has the potential to elicit creative ideas for making audiences feel as though they are attending the grand event in person. Paris Fashion Week has yet to confirm its schedule or featured brands, but the fashion capital of the world will never fail to dazzle audiences during its most significant week, regardless of venue or format.

Milano Fashion Week Digital to Stream Mid July

Milan is taking the initial steps in throwing their first ever virtual fashion week.

Fashion week, or otherwise known as the biggest events the fashion industry has to offer, are essential for designers, models, and anyone trying to get their name known in this business. But, how do these events take place while the world is experiencing a global pandemic? Can they even happen?

The answer is yes, and Milan is taking the initial steps in throwing their first ever virtual fashion week. Camera Nazionale della Mode Italiana is the organization to thank for creating and developing a plan to distribute a flawless Milan Fashion week mens.

As Milan showcases their Italian designers from July 14-17, the world will get to experience the magic that is fashion week. With the fashion capital of the world allowing its most creative and brilliant designers to explore new opportunities through a digital format, the market growth only expands. Of course, the events are made to allow creativity and self expression to flourish first and foremost, but these digital fashion shows have the potential to broaden markets for designers. Shanghai and Helsinki’s virtual fashion weeks proved to be of huge successes with millions of viewers attending the livestream. Milano Fashion Week Digital, the official name of the event, should have the same appeal.

Milano Fashion Week Digital will display designers newest collections for men’s 2021 spring/summer and men’s/women’s pre-collections for spring, as well as host panels and let viewers take a (virtual) look inside their showrooms. There will even be live performances, so this is a perfect spot for everyone. The designers will have free range for creativity, and anywhere up to 15 minutes designated for their lines.

While it may not be the future of fashion, it’s a great addition to the business. London is said to be premiering their version in the beginning of June.

As of right now, the women’s fashion week in Milan is still set to premiere in late September, and hopefully in an “in person” format.

Review: Gucci Fall 2020 RTW Collection Released at Milan Fashion Week

A review of the new Gucci Fall 2020 RTW Collection released at Milan Fashion Week.

Opening Milan Fashion Week, one of the most anticipated times during this month of back to back fashion shows, was Gucci. Only a few hours away from his hometown of Rome, Italy, Alessando Michele debuted the F/W 2020 collection and never fails to truly put on a show. Before showing off his myriad of frill pastel skirts, delicate puff sleeve tops, and pleated monochromatic pants, he displayed his models in a circular glass carousel just as they would step onto the runway.

Michele continues to keep his reputation of globally dominating the look of eccentric and extravagant presentations for Gucci. Focusing on layers in this show and being multidimensional, many looks consisted of high neck collars and some with ruffled details for the women. Snakeskin prints and plaid patterns were more prominent in the men’s outfits as they were placed in collared tops as well and flared pants. The 2020 pieces were not too far in detail compared to their F/W 2019 collection keeping some of the same The accessories were one of the protruding statements in the looks.

As the models walked one by one, there were handheld snake patterned purses, long cross chained necklaces, and some rhinestone drop earrings. Each look told a story and the accessories placed on top gave a ravishing dimension. There was little to almost no makeup presented and the facial expressions were neutral and serious as with almost everything that Michele has presented since he started at the Italian fashion house.
