As we know the CDC has recommended that we continue to wear face masks out in public for the past several months now. This most likely will be the case for quite some time to follow.

While face masks have been an important part of personal protective equipment in hospitals and warehouses, they are becoming a part of everyday life for everyone. Whether it’s a cloth face covering or a mask with a KN95 rating, the need to have face masks is now rapidly changing.

Face masks are going to be part of our everyday attire and it is something that we must be sure we never leave the house without. Anytime you go to grocery stores, for walks or to large gatherings you must be wearing a mask.

Since face masks are a huge part of our lives and what will help us stay the most protected, you might as well find a mask you like. Some shops, small businesses and designers have decided to change the style of these face masks to make them more “stylish”.

Places like Etsy, Fashion Nova, Revolve and several online shops created face masks that have designs such as lace, camo, plaid and countless others to make it more enjoyable to wear. These masks take up a very big part of our face when we wear them, so it’s important we feel comfortable in them.

Face masks may not be looked at as a fashion accessory, but with the CDC’s guidelines we must follow, our face masks should at least be appealing to the eye.

5 Helpful Tips for Masks & Makeup

Makeup and masks don’t mix well, especially during the summer, so we’ve put together five helpful tips for wearing makeup and a mask.

While a beauty routine might seem nonessential right now, wearing makeup helps people maintain a sense of normalcy during this difficult time. At the same time, it is important to wear a mask when leaving the house because it will help protect you and others from contracting COVID. Makeup and masks don’t mix well, especially during the summer, so we’ve put together five helpful tips for wearing makeup and a mask.

1. Lather on Sunscreen

There are going to be more sunny days as summer approaches. Wearing a mask under the sun can tan the top half of your face and not the bottom. To avoid uneven tan lines, lather on a SPF 50 or higher face-safe sunscreen. Be sure to pick one up before summer kicks in.

2. Stay Smudge-Proof with Waterproof Mascara

Touching your eyes is a quick and easy way for coronavirus to enter your body. When you’re in public, you’ll want eye products that don’t require touch-ups. Waterproof mascara doesn’t smudge or budge, so you won’t need to worry about primping your eyelashes while you’re out. Put on a coat of waterproof mascara before leaving the house!

3. Keep Moisturized

Look out for chafing while wearing a mask. If you have dry or combo skin, the repeated friction from wearing a mask can increase irritation on your face. A lotion or face-safe hydrating oil can help ease chafing caused by masks. Make sure to moisturize every morning.

4. Lose the Lipstick

Though lipstick usually adds to a look, make sure to wipe it off before putting your mask on. No one will be able to see it, and you’ll run the risk of it smudging on the mask’s fabric and onto your face. A chapstick or lip balm won’t get messy, plus the added SPF will protect your lips from any sun rays getting through your mask.

5. Set that Face

Wearing a full face plus a mask might cause products to gather or crease on your skin. Your face is more likely to become sweaty and oily during the summer, which will make your makeup run. Wearing a waterproof foundation or setting spray will help prevent creasing and running. They’ll set the products on your skin to make sure they won’t move.

Keeping up with Quarantine Trends

As we are in the middle of a pandemic, how does one still dress "trendy?"

As we are in the middle of a pandemic, how does one still dress "trendy?" It's tricky since everyone is stuck at home for the time being. However, even with quarantine going on, people are still finding ways to keep up with different fashion trends. Here's a couple for you so that you can keep in the loop!

One popular one that I've noticed is quite obvious. I've been shopping for nothing but comfort wear since being home. Doesn't everyone want to relax in their pajamas all day? I know since I have a bunch of zoom calls and facetime with friends that I still want to look cute. Matching sets with oversized sweatshirts and sweatpants are so in and incredibly cozy. What makes them even trendier is that people have started a bunch of DIYs and tie-dying or bleaching. It is all over my Instagram and TikTok feed. If you're looking to buy some, I'd recommend Etsy where you can support small businesses.

Another trend fits this period perfectly and that's face masks. I've seen people in supermarkets and walking on the streets wearing not just plain boring ones. I saw one girl wearing a cheetah print mask and another wearing one with bright colors on it. These fun masks make wearing them a lot easier for some people. It allows you to be safe while still being fashionable. People are making them themselves or ordering them online.

Where could you get some cute ones? Kim Kardashian has a fashion line of undergarments called SKIMS, where she has now included a collection of non-medical face masks. It comes in 5 different skin tone colors of Sand, Clay, Sienna, Cocoa, and Onyx. They are all one size fits all. SKIMS is additionally donating 10,000 Seamless Face Masks to charities. The masks became so popular that they sold out in less than 30 minutes! They will be more coming soon if you're interested!

Since wearing a face mask has been required in more than half of the states in the U.S., more and more people have begun to build it into a fashion statement. This accidental trend was quickly picked up by fashion designers around the world who knew that this would be our new way of life.

Many designers used this trend to benefit their communities and healthcare workers through the profits they make. Brands such as Collina Strada, have made masks with tie-dye patterns. Each purchase provides 5 masks to healthcare workers in New York City. Other brands such as Reformation, have created floral masks to match sun dresses.

Powerful women, such as Cindy Crawford, took to Instagram with a post saying “Social distancing but make it fashion,” while wearing a tie-dye mask matching her outfit. Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, has also been color coordinating her custom-made masks to her outfits.

Designers are not stopping there. With summer on the horizon, many bathing suit designers have even taken matching masks into their own hands, with what they deem a “trikini.” The Italian company Elexia Beachwear went viral for its matching bikini and face mask sets.

Would you match your face mask with your outfits? Its worth a try!
