About Loewe

Loewe is a luxury brand based in Madrid and owned by the LVMH group known for holding

numerous luxury companies such as Chanel, Christian Dior and Givenchy. The brand was

founded in 1846 by Enrique Loewe Hinton, who was granted as a fashion merchandise supplier

in the royal court by King Alfonso XIII of Spain. His wife Queen Victoria Eugenie was also a

frequent visitor of the store. The company deals with mostly leather products consisting of their

main produced item the Loewe signature bag for men and women. The company also sells many

other products such as ready-to-wear clothing, accessories, along with home and lifestyle

products for their average consumer. The brand has evolved into a huge best seller in the fashion

industry after many successful sales and shows, located with stores worldwide.

Fast forwarding to the present, the creative director of Loewe is Jonathan Anderson, who was

appointed in 2013. He debuted the brands ready-to-wear collection as the new director in 2014.

Anderson’s first issue of business was to remodel the stores and design clothing based from their

50s, 60s, and 70s style. With the new rebranding, a new logo was made as well along with the

new bag designs such as the “puzzle” bag.

Review: SS20 RTW

As we approach the fall season it’s time to put away the tank tops and sandals and bring out the

turtle necks and sweaters from our closets. In this collection, Anderson was focused on creating

modern and a very minimal aesthetic in this collection. Focusing more on silhouettes and the

shape of the garment rather than putting placement on the details. We can see that he drew

inspiration from the 18th and 19th century as the silhouette with jackets and long sleeve sweaters

create a hour glass shape to compliment the figure. In those eras the color palette consisted of

soft neutrals such as light browns, white, emerald green and gray; that was portrayed in this

wardrobe as well. The fabrics used were also very soft with clean and sharp cuts such as ruffles

along the hemline of the sleeves, leather along the collar and faux fur for scarves. Anderson

created a romantic and daring theme that has us all ready to wear this collection for fall.

Rating: Loewe SS20 RTW

This collection was definitely a 10/10. Drawing inspiration from styles that were produced years

ago and creating that image in a modern fashion in brilliant. Fashion is always evolving but

trends that were once popular in the past always come back. This 19th century way of dressing

was beautifully done in a way that showed a chic and high fashion style.

Personal 411 on Mary Katrantzou:

Mary Kantrantzou's self named clothing line debuted her first ready-to-wear collection at London Fashion Week in Spring/Summer of 2009. All of Mary's self named collections revolve around the filtered beauty within luxury things; a piece from the art of a design that an everyday woman would not be able to wear if it were real. Mary uses prints of textiles designs as the main focus in all of her collections which her previous season collections displayed textiles designs such as perfume bottles, artisan blown glasses, interiors and object of art, vintage postage stamps just to name a few. Each print Mary creatives is designed around the garment and also the garment around the print. With print textiles being so visual, prints has allowed Mary to create her own world but in the visual language that she displays throughout her collections. Mary's goal into every seasonal collection she puts out is to create something new and something people will appreciate for its intelligent design aesthetic. 

Personal 411 review on Mary Katrantzou SS17 collection:

Mary's influences for this collection were in between the triply graphics of the late 60's and early 70's music posters and her Greek roots with Greek vases and plates. Mary wanted to combine "swirly prog-rock patterns with symbols of the ancient Greek world in flared trousers and stretch t-shirts" with also layering which has been a signature of Mary's collection pieces. Mary managed to use completely different range influences and mash them together to make a beautiful textiles art out of this season's garments; allowing herself to explore her creative and take risks. This collection embodies originality and are great statement pieces for women worldwide.

Chitose started her clothing line Sacai after 8 years of working with the Junya Watanabe collection at Comme des Garçons and opened their first flagship store in September 2011 in Minamiaoyama, Tokyo. Even though her garments are geared towards female, Chistose's main interest is creating collection of clothes that are "unique and timeless, innovative and experimental". Sacai is known for using a lot of contrasting textures and patterns in their collections also including unexpected shapes and silhouettes. Chitose is constantly influenced by her surrounding and the day-to-day life which gives her a lot of inspiration with her line Sacai; giving it a type of elegance that is based on classical items. Chitose's idea for her line is to make it easy to transfer each garment between different occasions in a female's day-to-day life and not only for special opportunities.

Personal review on Sacai SS17 collection:

Chitose’s influences for this collection were the likes of the iconic entertainers Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain and Pablo Picasso just to name a few, wanting “to take things from their style and put it all together, as one”. And I feel like she did just that; filling this season’s collection with beautiful bold patterns and colorful sheer materials leaving each garment to stand on its own just like the talent of each artist she draw inspiration from. The collection as a whole is a piece of art that can be worn as show stoppers pieces to any event or daily basis.
