Five Must-Haves For Your Product Packaging

When you are creating a new food or drinks product, you need to have packaging that’ll stand out. You know that customers buy products that attract them, and the best thing that you can do is to ensure that your product packaging is the eye-catching option you want to see on the shelves. Packaging should be more than attractive, though, it should be legal and it should comply with the many, many regulations required for food creators.

You should have your brand reinforced, and you should ensure that you include every bit of necessary information out there. When you have wholesale food additives in your product, you need to let the world know about this on your packaging. As well as this, here are five other must-haves for your food product packaging

Always tell the truth. Your description of goods has to be honest, first and foremost! You have to have an accurate description of your ingredients on your product packaging, down to the vitamins involved with each ingredient. You could be prosecuted if you don't have the correct information, so that should give you some idea of why you need to tell the truth. Make sure that you’re also honest about the size and weight of the product as well as where it was made.

  1. Safety instructions are a must. If you have anything that is edible (as you do with your new food product), you need to make sure you include allergens. It’s vital that you are honest about all and any allergens because if you declare these, you can ensure that it goes to market properly. It’s the law to include allergens on your product packaging, so don't forget this detail.

  2. You need a barcode. Every product has to have a barcode attached to it - it’s essential if you plan to sell your product anywhere. The best thing that you can do is check out the best resources for barcodes, and while they’re not going to look too pretty on the packaging, they’re going to serve a purpose.

  3. Weight is a must. No one wants to reveal their weight but when it comes to food products, the weight of the product must be mentioned on every single packet. Read up on the guidance surrounding the weights of products and what you must include and in which system (imperial or metric). Being compliant in this isn't an option, but a must.

  4. Did you import any ingredients? The names of the import companies and the manufacturer name should be included in your packaging, too. You need to ensure that the details are visible, too. This is just in case of a consumer claim that could pop up against the product.

These are the five must haves for your product packaging if you’re selling food or drinks. Don't leave anything out, and make sure that you resize things so that they fit the labels. It’s always better to shrink it down than miss it out, so check the labelling regulations before you get any printing done!
